Last year on Saturday at the Firefly Music Festival, bad weather caused a handful of cancellations among the headliners and left the festival grounds a soggy muck on Sunday. Funny what a difference a year makes.

Yesterday at Firefly, the operative word was hot, both in terms of the temperature and performers. With their British rock star swagger, Catfish and the Bottlemen set the bar extremely high for the day, as rows of fan-girls sang along with every lyric. CHVRCHES elicited a similar response, as their stage show is currently firing on all cylinders thanks to a rigorous touring schedule.

Lauren Mayberry also turned up as a special guest during Death Cab for Cutie's admirably energetic performance. A shirtless Jesse Rutherford of The Neighbourhood slinked his way through their set while Pell proved to be one of the biggest surprises of the day thanks to a set that will stand among the best of the entire weekend.

M83 continue to sound sharp and focused in concert, as does A$AP Rocky, whose signature confidence and charisma are even more pronounced live. The night wrapped up (for us) with another astonishing set from Florence + The Machine, the rare group whose show isn’t significantly diminished in a festival environment.
