Interpol announces North American tour in support of new album 'El Pintor'
InterpolVEVO

Last month, Interpol announced a Sept. 8 release date for El Pintor, the band’s fifth studio album and first since their self-titled 2010 release. While the band had previously announced plans for a lengthy summer tour throughout Europe, today they revealed dates for a fall trek, the group’s first North American tour in three years.

Interpol will kick off their tour in support of El Pintor on Sept. 15 at the Commodore Ballroom in Vancouver, BC and the tour wraps with a concert at Washington D.C.’s 9:30 Club on Nov. 29. According to Pitchfork, Hundred Waters will serve as opener for many of the shows. A limited number of pre-sale tickets will go on sale July 15 at interpolnyc.com, while the rest will be available on Friday, July 18.

The news of a tour and new album is certainly welcome for fans of the indie band, whose 2002 debut Turn On the Bright Lights is a beguiling and brilliant listen from front to back. Things have been a bit up and down for the New York City band since then, as bassist Carlos Dengler left the group following their 2010 album and the band’s current members have all been releasing solo projects, which created some doubt about the group’s future. But in June, the band announced the new album with a track listing and making-of video, and last week they released the first single from El Pintor (an anagram of Interpol that’s Spanish for “The painter”), the excellent “All The Rage Back Home.”
