NBA Draft shakeup could make for viewing bonanza

No draft has ever unfolded based upon what would make for the best viewing. Imagine if it did, though?

The NBA Draft could play out in a number of ways, but the most likely scenario still has Markelle Fultz going No. 1 to the Boston Celtics and Lonzo Ball heading to the Los Angeles Lakers with the second overall pick. Even though De’Aaron Fox would make a ton of sense to go to Philadelphia, Josh Jackson – the Kansas swingman – is thought to be destined for the 76ers.

What if the Lakers throw a wrench into the proceedings? Any reports of Ball being a question mark at this point are likely a smokescreen, but picture the entertainment value of the UCLA point guard going to the Sixers. If the Lakers opt for Fox or even decide to trade back, the payoff for the NBA fan could be huge.

Brett Brown’s Philadelphia squad would instantly turn into this era’s version of the Showtime Lakers. No, they wouldn’t win as much, but the locker room would barely be able to contain that wealth of personalities.

Ben Simmons’ athleticism, Ball’s playmaking, Joel Embiid’s antics and LaVar Ball thrown into the mix – all to go along with a plucky head coach who puts his nose to the grindstone each year.

The Sixers are already a team to watch going forward because of their abundance of young talent. The personalities don’t even include Dario Saric and Timothé Luwawu-Cabarrot, both of whom proved to be capable NBA rotation players.

Everyone has long begged for the Lakers to take Ball at No. 2 for all the obvious reasons: he’s a local product, has a game tailored for the roster, has a father keen on world domination, etc. The more entertaining result, however, would occur if Ball lands with the Sixers.

While it likely won’t happen, NBA fans should take a rooting interest. The Golden State Warriors would have to watch out... in four or five years.
