The clocks have sprung forward, the birds are chirping and the weather is...well for a lot of the country, the weather is still terrible, but the point is, Spring is almost here! For movie buffs, that means blockbuster season is right around the corner, with many of the biggest titles of the year slated to open in theaters between late March and August.
For action movies, adaptations, remakes and sequels (or any combination thereof), there’s no better format to see these movies in than 4DX. 4DX theaters utilize a variety of technologies, from motion chairs to in-theater effects, to create the most immersive movie-going experience in the world. And with the brand new CGV Buena Park cultureplex now open in Orange County, California, it’s easier than ever to experience the future of cinema for yourself.
With that in mind, here’s an early look at what’s coming to 4DX over the coming months. For a list of showtimes and to find a 4DX theater near you, visit the official 4DX website.
“Beauty and the Beast” - March 17
One of the most anticipated movies of the year, Disney’s new live-action version of their 1991 classic stars Emma Watson as Belle and Dan Stevens as Beast. Some are predicting that the film will be the biggest box office hit of the year so far, and fans of the original will want to see the film in 4DX, where the state-of-the-art sound and visual technologies will bring the movie to life like the enchanted furniture in Beast’s castle.
“Power Rangers” - March 24
Another film based on a beloved pop culture property from the ‘90s, the “Power Rangers” get a 21st century update in this new film adaptation. Unlike the endearingly corny original, these Power Rangers look legitimately badass and the cast is bolstered by award-winning actors like Bryan Cranston and Elizabeth Banks. With fighting robots the size of buildings, you’ll want to go (go) see this one in 4DX.
“Ghost in the Shell” - March 31
This remake of the influential anime from the '90s (picking up a theme here?) stars Scarlett Johansson as a human-cyborg hybrid who is committed to fighting crime until a sudden revelation rocks her to her core (processor). Johansson has proven herself to be one of the best action movie stars working today and the original film is a densely-layered mind-trip that became one of the most successful anime projects ever released. The production design and innovative action should make this one well worth seeing in a cutting-edge 4DX theater.
“The Fate of the Furious” - April 14
At this point, does anyone need a pitch other than “New ‘Fast & Furious’ movie?” "FF" has improbably become one of the most consistent action franchises in modern cinema and it shows little signs of slowing down with the eighth installment. Although fans will undoubtedly miss Paul Walker, Furiosa herself, Charlize Theron, is now onboard, along with the rest of the gang, including newer additions to the franchise like Jason Statham and Kurt Russell. With its non-stop action and epic set pieces, there may not be a better movie suited to 4DX than “The Fate of the Furious,” so get your advance tickets now.
“Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” - May 5
Despite starring lesser-known superheroes, the original “Guardians of the Galaxy” was one of Marvel’s most successful films, both creatively and commercially. The sequel looks like it will retain the original’s quirky mixture of space opera action, cute comedy and killer classic rock. And if that wasn’t enough, we have two more words: Baby Groot.
“Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales” - May 26
Finally, the “Pirates of the Caribbean” franchise returns to theaters with fifth installment of Johnny Depp’s popular high seas series. Those who have experienced 4DX know that the water effects are among its most intriguing features and based on the trailer above, there should be ample opportunities to get splashed when “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales” pulls into port on May 26.
So there’s clearly a lot of movie magic to look forward to as the summer approaches. For more details on 4DX, visit their official Facebook page and check out the reactions of those experiencing 4DX for the first time in the video below.
