State Farm featured its first State Farm Neighborhood Session summer concert series in the Bronx with its first artist Jennifer Lopez. Lopez returned back to her neighborhood since her first album debut.
It was the first summer concert for the State Farm Neighborhood Session series: a music program that gives artists the opportunity to give back to their communities that had inspired them growing up and to express their gratitude. The event included concessions, family games, and a variety of activities which concluded with a concert of select artists.
The Bronx born beauty Jennifer Lopez was the first artist selected for the State Farm event. Lopez returned to her birthplace after 15 years of absence from her hometown. Hundreds of fans of all ages attended the concert to get a glimpse of the 44-year-old singer at Orchard Beach in Pelham Bay Park. Of the 25,000 tickets given out on May 15, an estimated 20,000 made act of presence.
For an hour and a half and several outfit changes, Lopez sang her hits from the beginning of her music career to her latest songs which included one Spanish song "No Me Queda Mas" from the movie she starred in of the legendary Tejano singer Selena in 1997. It goes to mention, Lopez was inspired to record a demo in Spanish but it wasn't until 2007 she actually recorded a Spanish album titled Como Ama una Mujer although the album only contained two songs in Spanish: "Qué Hiciste" and "Me Haces Falta." Prior to the album, she recorded a duo with Marc Anthony "Escapémonos."
Other songs included during her performance, the opening number "Coming Home," “Ain’t It Funny,” "I Luh Ya Papi," "Same Girl," “If You Had My Love,” “Jenny from the Block,” as well as songs from her upcoming album, “A.K.A.,” due for release June 17. Guests included backup singer Pia Toscano a former "American Idol" contestant, fellow Bronx native Fat Joe who sang his hit "Lean Back," Ja Rule, French Montana, and a dozen or so dancers.
Lopez has starred in numerous movies and participated in reality shows with her most recent as an American Idol judge. Winner of numerous awards and recognitions including the 2014 Icon award from the Billboard Music Awards where she also performed one of FIFA World Cup songs with Cuban-American rap and pop artist Pitbull.
