Junk Kouture, the world’s largest youth sustainable fashion competition challenging second-level education students aged 13–18 years to create striking and imaginative outfits out of nothing but recycled materials has announced that London will host the 2023 World Final of Junk Kouture. The event is set to take place on October 12, 2023, at London’s most iconic concert and events venue, the OVO Arena Wembley.
Curated to shine a light on the voices of youth and the importance of climate change through creativity and self-expression, this event is the grand final of the 2023 season of Junk Kouture. The World Final at the OVO Arena Wembley will see a total of 60 designs and their teams from secondary schools across the globe - London, Paris, Milan, Dublin, NYC and Abu Dhabi model and perform in haute-couture designs made entirely from recycled materials. Watch as take to the catwalk and share their inspiring design backstories for a chance of winning one of many awards, culminating in the crowning of the Junk Kouture World Designer of the Year 2023 in front of celebrity judges, industry experts and an audience of cheering supporters from around the world!
Following on from the success of the first-ever World Final of Junk Kouture which took place at the Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi, Junk Kouture set their sights on London to be the next host city of this one-of-a-kind event.
Junk Kouture is a creative program for youth that promotes the importance of sustainability. Highlighting that what we view as ‘junk’ can be recycled in useful and impactful ways, it challenges young people to create beautiful and interesting fashion outfits out of materials normally thrown away.
Founded in Ireland in 2010 by tech entrepreneur, and CEO of Junk Kouture, Troy Armour, the competition has recruited 100,000 participants to date, produced 15,000 distinctive designs, saved 40,000kg of waste from landfill and amazed packed crowds at 60 sold-out arena shows. Now, in 2023, Junk Kouture has gone global with a 10-year ambition to enrich the lives of a billion young people through creativity and sustainability.
The Junk Kouture City Finals will take place in 6 major cities, including Dublin, London, Milan, Paris, New York City and Abu Dhabi, before the World Final, taking place in the OVO Arena, Wembley in London on October 12th, 2023.
The progressive competition is free to enter and open to all students between the ages of 13 and 18. Participants may join as individuals or in groups of up to three. Designed to create an inclusive community and educate people about the importance of protecting our planet and promoting creativity, students of all backgrounds and levels of experience are welcome to join.
