Multi-instrumentalist, bandleader and producer, Emma-Jean Thackray has been confirmed as support for Paul Weller’s London outdoor show for 2022, taking place at the Royal Hospital in Chelsea.
The show will see the glorious courtyard of the Royal Hospital Chelsea transformed into one of the most stunning and unique concert venues in the country.
Emma-Jean Thackray released her debut album ‘Yellow’ last year to critical acclaim. Ranging from a number of different genres stretching from ‘70s jazz fusion to P-funk, the album saw her nominated for Best Jazz Act at the MOBO awards.
Thackray recently completed her biggest live tour to date, and has previously collaborated with the likes of Nubya Garcia, Ezra Collective, and Makaya McCraven.
Last year was a busy year for Paul Weller releasing 2 Top 5 UK chart albums. Starting with May’s number 1 album ‘Fat Pop’ and December’s ‘An Orchestrated Songbook’, his new album that features music from right across his exceptional career reworked & redefined alongside The BBC Symphony Orchestra & acclaimed conductor Jules Buckley.
His solo career launched in 1992, starting with the release of his self-titled effort that same year. He has gone on to release a total of 16 solo studio albums.
Well known for his time in two legendary bands in addition to his solo work, he began his musical career in 1972 as a member of The Jam, with hit singles such as ‘Going Underground’, ‘That’s Entertainment;’ ‘Eton Rifles’, and ‘Town Called Malice’. Weller going on to form The Style Council,—with whom he released a further six LPs—before they disbanded in 1989.
