Bio: Michael Martin Murphey

What others have said about Michael Martin Murphey's Cowboy Christmas "A holiday tradition"- The Washington Post "haunting and shimmering" - The Denver Post "mIghty guitar pickin' and foot-stompin" - The Los Angeles Times. "family-friendly, faith-infused...unabashed nostalia!" - The Dallas Morning News "Warms your body like a cup of hot chocolate"- Downtown Fort Worth, Inc Murphey combines music from his "Wildfire! Greatest Hits" album and multiple best-selling Christmas albums into a colorful holiday celebration multi-media production complete with his "Rio Grande Band", dramatic lighting, Western dance troupe, Western Art, master-artist photographs, spectacular videos and humorous cowboy poetry. "Michael Martin Murphey's Cowboy Christmas" brings out the rural nature of the story of the Birth of Jesus in the country village of Bethlehem, where the Good News comes first to livestock people in the fields to the herders, or "cowboys", of 2000 years-ago. Murphey was originally inspired by an 1885 wild-west dance in Anson, Texas- the original "Texas Cowboys' Christmas Ball"- which still to this day continues the Biblical tradition of dancing, singing and feasting during "holidays"- a word which means "holy days". In 1992, Michael created a totally original, never-done before, best-selling "Cowboy Christmas" album. It was a game-changing concept album for popular Christmas music. Murphey followed with 5 more Cowboy Christmas albums and DVDs. Today, it's become a full-scale live musical concert production! Join Michael, the Rio Grande Band and the Rocky Mountain Vintage Dancers in a fun, yet heart-felt, "Christmas Cowboy-Style”. We also have these comments from fans this year (we have a QR code that goes to our website and we’re collecting these from shows) - I Heard the Bells - so relevant for the times. It’s good to be reminded there is always hope in the world - Andee Leininger Great show down to earth. Love the whole show violinist is fantastic. Very entertaining night. Everyone compliments each I am glad my wife found the tickets My wife and I went to the concert as an anniversary present to ourselves. We are celebrating 24 years of marriage but when we were talking during intermission it would have been a great concert to bring my parents who are near their 60 th year of marriage! Great show great story telling … I too come from “A long line of love” This is our kick off to the holiday season! Getting our hearts and minds ready to celebrate the birth of the Lord, to celebrate with family and friends and to look forward to a brighter new year! Thank you for all you do to bring happiness to your fans My dad met Michael about 20 years ago. My uncle knew Michael pretty well and it's always been my dads dream to come see him again as my uncle has passed. We are so thankful for this opportunity to share together. - Kobi Bennetts The magic moment for me is when they played the song I Heard The Bells on Christmas Day. I loved hearing the story behind this song and it now has a special meaning to me and I have gained a love for this beautiful song. This was my least favorite Christmas song in the past, but no more. The way it was shared tonight was beautiful and touched my soul so deeply that it brought tears to my eyes. Thank you for sharing. I love Michael Martin Murphey and how genuine he is. I have been listening to him since I was in high school in the early 1970’s. My family has been going to his concerts since West Fest in Copper Mountain. Thank God for entertainers like him This show was a "bucket" list item. My son surprised me with the tickets! Making memories with him and bringing back memories of time gone by. Love the show! I cried at the song, 'Didn't She Dance in Her Day". Especially at the end as the dancer came out as an elderly lady dancing with the young man who we presumed was her husband who had passed. So sweet! The pure honesty. Learned the history of I Heard The Bells On Christmas Day. Good family fun! You would love to see Moon Farm, an iconic site of Grand Junction. Is now used for horse therapy. Thank you for all the best memories at Coper Mountain! I miss those days. All of it! Incredible - thank you!! 'Twas In The Moon of Wintertime" And... "Wildfire" loved the true story! I am an elementary music teacher, and last year, I introduced your song Wildfire to all my classes in our unit on Western music. They are CRAZY about that song and frequently ask to hear it. Of course, I am happy to oblige when I can My husband and I loved the whole show. But hearing Long line of love and What's Forever For on our anniversary was magical. It was our First time to the Cowboy Christmas Ball at the Paramount Theater in Denver. Maybe 1995 or 1996. We were thrilled to have a show about our way of life. It was a magic moment. We have been back for many more shows. This year is a celebration of our 50th Wedding Anniversary. There were many magic moments but personally, I am a lover of the Huron Carol. I teach music and we do a unit on Native music and traditions. This song is so meaningful to me… Michael took it a step further with his very lovely performance of it! Michael’s singing was divine and the mood and atmosphere for the song with the slides and campfire really touched me.
