Outside of Disney’s usual animated features they also distribute the animated films for the popular Japanese Studio Ghibli films. Recently they have been bringing a variety of these films to Blu-ray for the first time. One of those getting the Blu-ray treatment is director and Studio Ghibli co-founder Hayao Miyazaki’s 2001 film Spirited Away featuring a great English voice cast including DAveigh Chase, Suzanne Pleshette, David Ogden Stiers, Lauren Holly, Michael Chiklis, John Ratzenberger, and Tara Strong.

Spirited Away follows a young girl, Chihiro, trapped in a strange new world of spirits. When her parents undergo a mysterious transformation, she must call on the courage she never knew she had to free herself and return her family to the outside world. There is a reason that this film won the best animated feature Academy Award in 2002. This film is amazing on so many levels. The animation itself is amazing, but it is the content to this film that makes it standout. There are so many insanely bizarre and brilliant characters and ideas that come to fruition here it is has to be seen to believe. This is the true nature of imagination come to life like only Studio Ghibli can. Everything about this film is beautiful in its own way from the story and struggle of the young girl to the dark creatures she is forced to face. You are truly being taken on a journey of a dark imagination that you may need to see a couple of times before being able to really absorb it all. The story seems so simple but it is a lot deeper than you might think and coupled with the brilliantly amazing imagery makes for one of the most unique and vibrant animated films of all times. Not everyone will be able to open their mind enough to understand and appreciate what this film is delivering, but if you can you are in for a real treat if you have never experienced this film.

If you have never seen this or any of the other Studio Ghibli films from Hayao Miyazaki then this is the perfect chance for you to change the travesty in your life. If you have then you will no doubt want to add this beautiful film to your collection. In addition to the film, this Blu-ray also includes numerous special features including original Japanese storyboards, Japanese trailers and TV spots, an introduction from John Lasseter and more to make this a must have for any fan of Studio Ghibli.
