There are movies where the music tells us a story and helps us relate to the characters. Titanic, which was a blockbuster film that earned 11 Academy Awards including best picture in 1998, was a film in which the music was just as important as the cinematography and the acting. “My Heart Will Go On,” Celine Dion’s signature song, a song that was released in 1998, a song that broke a world record becoming number one in the world and the biggest hit selling singles of all time, was the theme song of the movie, Titanic.
The theme song of the Titanic helps us to understand the relationship of star crossed lovers Jack and Rose. The melody of this song sounds differently in every scene that this piece of music is played. When Jack draws a portrait of Rose, we hear a soft version of the song, “My Heart Will Go On.”
Now Celine Dion has something in common with the fictional character of Rose, for she recently lost the love of her life, her husband Rene Angelil. As an exceptional vocalist and strong lady, her heart and passion for music have remained strong as she knows that her husband would have wanted her to continue performing and inspiring the world. Dion’s top five lyrics are from the song, “My Heart Will Go On:”
"Love can touch us one time
And last for a lifetime
And never let go til we’re gone
Love was when I loved you
One true time I hold to"
All of us who have lost a loved one can relate to this song, but that loss does not necessarily have to be through death. Some people are destined to be a part of our lives for only a short time. We should not feel sad when they leave, for a part of them will always remain with us. Sometimes we learn more from a person who has been in our lives briefly than from someone who has been in our lives for a long time. Our relationships with other people, no matter how long they last, help us to learn much more about ourselves and teach us how to love others. When you feel lost, look into your heart to hear their voices guiding you in the right direction once again.
