On Nov. 7, 2014, Charlotte’s Tremont Music Hall hosts the Breakout Artist Music Competition, as musicians from around the region vie for the chance to compete for the title of Breakout Artist of the Year. Bands will compete on the Tremont stage beginning at 7 p.m. on Nov. 7 in the Main Hall.
Headlining the event is All About A Bubble (A3B), the Oklahoma pop-rock band that won the title of 2013 Breakout Artist of the Year in last year’s competition.
The Charlotte event is one of 32 regional competitions being held this fall in clubs across the country. Formerly an online competition, this year Breakout is taking its show on the road to get audience reaction and input. Five finalists are chosen in each city to move on to the final stage of the contest. One finalist is selected by the headlining band, one by the Breakout crew, and three by audience ballot.
The grand prize winner will be announced in January, 2015, receiving the title 2014 Breakout Artist of the Year, plus a management contract, professionally produced demo, music video and photo shoot, consultation on label shopping and branding, digital distribution, and a gig headlining the national tour of the 2015 Breakout competition.
In all, the contest will distribute over $15,000 in cash and prizes. The competition is open to bands playing all styles of music, including pop, rock, alternative, metal/hardcore, country, indie/folk, singer/songwriter, rap/hip hop, R&B, electronic, and Christian.
Every band, win or lose, that competes receives a one-on-one consultation with the management professionals at Breakout, possibly leading to a management contract. These take place January to March, 2015, following the announcement of the winning Breakout Artist of the Year. Participating bands are also invited to a short industry workshop before each event exploring development, industry trends, networking, and developing a unique commercial style.
