Influential Long Island band Brand New will be supporting notable indie rock band Modest Mouse on Saturday, August 9 at Forest Hills Stadium in Queens, New York. Doors will open for the show at 5 p.m. and the show begins at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are available here.
Consisting of Jesse Lacey (lead vocals/ rhythm guitar), Vincent Accardi (lead guitar/ backing vocals), Brian Lane (drums), and Garret Tierney (bass guitar/ backing vocals), Brand New has released four albums to date. Although they haven't released any new music since 2009's Daisy (which came out on Interscope Records), they continue to be an influential group in the emo and alternative music scenes. Their tours—which included a series of discography shows, where they'd play select albums from their catalog front-to-back, in December—continue to sell out.
Brand New will be touring the U.S. and Canada this summer, going as far north as Bear Tooth Theatre in Anchorage, Alaska on September 4 and as far south as the Fillmore in Miami Beach, Fla. on Oct. 25. Full tour dates are available on Brand New's official website, where they hint at the possibility of new music, saying that the past few weeks have included, "Some writing, some recording, some new gear, some studio building." No further details have been released regarding this, though it's interesting to note that this appears to be Brand New's first release as an unsigned band, as they fulfilled their contract with Interscope Records back in 2010.
The show with Brand New is the last of a nearly month-long tour for Modest Mouse. The Issaquah, Wash. band will kick off the tour with a performance at The Hudson Project in Saugerties, New York on July 11, after which they'll head westward across the United States, then up through Canada and back east, finishing up at The Starland Ballroom in Sayreville, New Jersey on August 7 and Forest Hills Stadium on the 9th. Portland, Oregon's Mimicking Birds and Toronto, Canada's Kevin Drew (of Broken Social Scene) will be joining Modest Mouse for various dates of the tour; check out the full list of shows on their official website here.
Modest Mouse's most recent release is the 2009 EP No One's First and You're Next; their 2007 full-length album, We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank, was certified Gold in the US by the RIAA. Recently, they performed at the 2014 Hangout Music Festival in Gulf Shores, Alabama, where they shared the stage with acts like The Black Keys and The Killers.
