Award-winning emcee Shah has provided AXS with an exclusive look at his upcoming single, "Pay Day 71," via a powerful trailer. The title of the track references the 71 cents that women make on average compared to a man's dollar, and the single is a thought-provoking and lyrically superior display of Shah's talents. The accompanying music video contains contrasting images of excess and reflection, such as a man reading a bible being interrupted by scantily-clad females. Other singles on the upcoming EP tackle race relations, police brutality, and more timely social issues. For Shah, who splits his time between New York and Toronto, these topics can be covered as effortlessly as popping bottles and making it rain.
"Pay Day 71" follows the success of "Ridin Shotty with God," whose video has received over 140,000 views on YouTube. Indeed, the "Day of Shah" music video series increases in popularity with each installment, garnering more fans for the already acclaimed artist. Shah has consistently been ranked one of Toronto's best new artists, and was recently called one of the World’s Top 10 Desi Rappers. Despite these accolades, Shah remains humble and hungry, proclaiming “This is just Day One.”
