The L.A. Matadors are the Los Angeles team in the World Series of Boxing.
The World Series of Boxing was formed by the International Olympic Committee-recognized world governing body for boxing, the International Boxing Association (AIBA). The WSB unites Olympic and World Championship medalists under one umbrella to form the world's first global sports league with 12 teams competing in 3 continents (Asia, Europe, and North America). WSB boxers retain their Olympic eligibility. The WSB develops boxing's next superstars and bridges amateur and professional boxing.
The Los Angeles Matadors are one of 4 teams in the WSB Americas conference, along with the Memphis Force, Miami Gallos, and Mexico City Guerreros. The regular season consists of six home fights and six away fights against Americas conference teams starting in November 2010 through March 2011. All Los Angeles fights will be held at Nokia Theatre or Club Nokia at L.A. Live in downtown Los Angeles. The regular season ends with a playoff structure that will match the best Americas conference team with the best teams from around the world. WSB Champions gain automatic qualification for the 2012 Olympic Games in London.
