The Cool Kids Biography

In the packed confines of clubs around their hometown of Chicago and throughout the world, The Cool Kids' irresistible, hooky rhymes and club-cramming beats have seamlessly bridged the old and new schools of hip hop.  Since forming in 2005 as a duo, The Cool Kids have been featured in Rolling Stone, XXL, The Source, Spin, Paper Magazine, CBS News, The New Yorker, The Fader, and on the cover of URB - all before the release of their debut EP!

Chuck Inglish and Mikey Rocks met on MySpace in 2005 while Chuck was attending Illinois Art Institute in Chicago and Mikey was still in high school.  In August 2006, under a year from their formation, the duo began performing at venues and parties around the city. They grabbed the attention of breakout DJs Flosstradamus, who were responsible for a much-hyped monthly dance night at the Town Hall Pub in Chicago. They invited The Cool Kids to appear and word of their energizing performances spread quickly.  In March 2007 The Cool Kids joined Flosstradamus and other Chicago artists for a show at SXSW and promptly began grabbing the attention of national media.

Early on The Cool Kids established their own label, C.A.K.E. Recordings (Creating Art for Kids Everywhere) - under which the duo have written, recorded, and produced all their own music.  Initially, the duo planned to release their own album on C.A.K.E. in July 2007.  With their profile rising, The Cool Kids instead began taking their live show to the masses.  They performed at the 2007 Pitchfork Festival along with De La Soul and Clipse, and were later tapped by MIA to support her on a 30-day sold out nationwide tour, bringing their tally of performances to over 150 for that year.

In 2008, riding high on the success of their single "Black Mags", an appearance in a Rhapsody TV commercial and song placements in HBO's Entourage and 2KSports NBA2K9 (Video Game/Tour), The Cool Kids were poised to make this their year.  They brought their talents to Europe for the first time, returned to the US and released their debut EP The Bake Sale in June 2008.  The EP launched their career to greater heights than ever and cemented their role as one of the most influential figures in contemporary hip-hop.  They performed at Coachella, Lollapalooza, the Rock The Bells tour, shared a co-headlining spot with Q-Tip on the nationwide 2K Sports Bounce tour, and had their first national TV performance on Jimmy Kimmel Live.

2009 will find The Cool Kids taking their inventive brand of infectious hip-hop even further with their forthcoming LP When Fish Ride Bicycles.  Starting off their year on a high note, The Cool Kids just released the video for "Pennies", the first track to surface from the upcoming album.  Check it out here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2b_ty5VuOk0&feature=channel_page.
