Molotov’s Background
Molotov was first formed in 1995 in Mexico City with Tito Fuentes and Micky Huidobro. They recruited Iván Jared and Javier de la Cueva, but the two left the band shortly after. Paco Ayala and Randy Ebright joined the band in 1996 and have been playing with it since.3
Fuentes and Huidobro named the band after the Molotov cocktail, an improvised explosive. According to Ebright, in the early days of the band, they would “fool around” with real Molotov cocktails outside their rehearsal space, and the name stuck.4
Molotov’s unfiltered lyrics were subject to public backlash and even censorship in the early years. However, their sharp political satire garnered hundreds of thousands of album sales. By the late 90s, they were Grammy-nominated.3
