Mike Relm Biography
San Francisco's MIKE RELM is known for live performances which feature a series of audio mash-ups with video images, manipulated in real-time. It's all captured the critically acclaimed video turntablist's new DVD Clown Alley, set for release this July via his Radio Fried Films. Relm decided to push the DVD's release back-it was originally due out in April--to allow additional time for the creation of two edits (R and PG) and to have it coincide with his appearance on Tony Hawk's Boom Boom Huck Jam action sports tour this summer.Wrote URB magazine's Som Khamsaysoury in the May/June issue about Clown Alley: "Finally! Mike Relm fights off clowns from revealing what's in the all-important briefcase from the magical realm (pun intended) of 3D! In this latest Relm produced, directed and edited feature, the suit and tie DJ/VJ is seen doing what he does best-chop and screw video clips and records simultaneously. (Most of which were culled from his sets from Coachella '07 and his openings with Blue Man Group.) There's even a spoof interview with Larry King where Relm is grilled about his live sets. Skits are cool and all, but the bread 'n' butter is in the live segments. Nothing beats a live Mike Relm set, but the DVD comes close to replicating it... "Relm recently wrapped up his arena tour with the Blue Man Group. His other credits include performances for a San Francisco Giants vs. Oakland A's baseball game and the closing ceremonies of the Pan Am Games in Rio de Janeiro. He completed remixes for Adult Swim in conjunction with the Aqua Teen Hunger Force movie, scored a short film for the Disney Channel series "Too Many Robots," and created a four-song mega mix for "Yo Gabba Gabba" (Nickelodeon). Relm also stars in an international TV spot for HSBC.
