Take To The Oars Biography

Fresh off the heels of a sold-out show CD release show, a visit to SXSW, and opening for national acts like Young The Giant and Rooney, Take To The Oars are hitting 2011 running and people are taking notice. With the release of their debut album, American Volume, they are primed for the airwaves and ready to conquer the national stage.Take to the Oars have been seen sharing the stage with Fuel, Paper Route, Eisley, Great Northern, The Gracious Few, Rooney, The Epilogues, Air Dubai, and many more.Ryan Gombeski (vocals, guitar) and Chris Weaver (drums) originally formed the band under the name Vonnegut (Westword Awards Best Modern Rock Band 2008) in 2005. Mike Trujillo (guitar, vocals) joined in 2007 and JP Manza (bass, vocals, accordion, & producer) joined in 2008 to solidify the linup. In the spring of 2010, with a new album on the horizon showcasing a more broad and evolved sound, the band realized the previous moniker no longer accurately represented the music and the mission. Vonnegut officially changed in June of 2010 to Take to the Oars after the latin proverb, if the wind will not serve, take to the oars. Their debut full-length album American Volume was released in January of 2011.
