Amy Schumer honored with two Grammy nominations

Amy Schumer has had a great year and now she has been honored by The Recording Academy for her hard work, creativity and hilarious comedy with not one, but two Grammy nominations. The “Trainwreck” star is represented in the categories of Best Comedy Album and Best Spoken Word Album.

While Schumer is a serious contender in both categories, she will face some stiff competition. David Cross, Margaret Cho, Tig Notaro and Patton Oswalt are also nominated in the comedy category and Schumer will face off against such heavy hitters as Carol Burnett, Patti Smith, Elvis Costello and the artists behind the Under the Big Black Sun: A Personal History of L.A. Punk album to see who will take home the Best Spoken Word trophy. This is the first year in which Schumer has received a Grammy nomination in any category.

Time will tell if Schumer will win a Grammy, but she has already broken through several glass ceilings in 2016. Earlier this year, she became the first woman to appear on Forbes Top Paid Comedians List and she also won the Writers Guild of America Award for Best Sketch Series for her Comedy Central show, “Inside Amy Schumer,” which is currently on hiatus so she can focus on writing and stand-up comedy.

Schumer has spent the better part of this year touring all over the world and unfortunately her rigorous schedule has caught up with her. She had to cancel her December tour dates in Australia and New Zealand in order to focus on her health. "Australia! I am so sorry I am not well enough to make it there right now,” Schumer stated on Instagram. “I am going to get healthy and come as soon as I can. I love it there so much. The people are the coolest and the meat pies are the hottest. See you ASAP!"

Schumer will still be performing at the Smoothie King Center in New Orleans on Dec. 31 and she also has plans to travel to Canada in 2017. She will perform at Royal Farms Arena in Baltimore on March 4, as well.
