This August, Brooklyn is set to become the hub for some of the most interesting and hilarious comedians in the country as the Brooklyn Comedy Festival is taking over venues across the borough from Aug. 22-28. Headlining the highly-anticipated festivities is the one-and-only wizard of live performance, Reggie Watts.
Watts is set to perform a pair of shows, dubbed An Evening with Reggie Watts, on Aug. 27 at the Music Hall of Williamsburg. The set is presented by Leafly, the world's cannabis information resource, and will feature additional performances by Jena Friedman and Michelle Buteau, as well as music by The Gotham Easy. Fans can expect a one-of-a-kind blend music and comedy during Watts' can't miss performance.
“Saturday Night Live” cast members, Vanessa Bayer and Sasheer Zamata, are also scheduled to appear at the 2016 edition of the Brooklyn Comedy Festival. Bayer will be performing two shows at The Bell House on Aug. 26 and fans can catch Zamata at the IFC & Ice Breakers Comedy Showcase, hosted by Julie Klausner, on Aug. 25. Myq Kaplan, Dan Soder, Hari Kondabolu, Jo Firestone, Joe List and Aparna Nancherla are also featured on this year's lineup, as are Joe Pera, Phoebe Robinson, Sean Donnelly and many more.
The Brooklyn Comedy Festival was created to celebrate the scene and showcase established and up-and-coming performers from every form of comedy, including sketch, stand-up, improv and digital content. Panel discussions and after-parties are also key components to the schedule of events. Judah Friedlander, Mark Normand, and John Early all performed at the 2015 Brooklyn Comedy Festival. Additional previous performers include Hannibal Buress, Jeff Ross, Kevin Allison, Michael Che, Nikki Glaser and many others.
Watts previously wowed audiences during the festival's debut year back in 2013, when he was appearing on “Comedy Bang! Bang!.” Currently, he can be seen as the band leader on “The Late Late Show with James Corden,” as well as on tour as a solo act or with his band Karen. Along with Sarah Silverman, Michael Cera, and Tim & Eric, Watts co-founded the JASH comedy network on YouTube, which features hilarious videos from the creators and their incredibly funny friends.
