Continuing the AMAs hip-hop pattern, Nicki Minaj took home both Hip-Hop/Rap awards in 2015. The pattern started in 2009 and continues this year with one artist (or pair of artists) taking home both the Favorite Album and Favorite Artist award in the Hip-Hop/Rap category. Last night, during the 2015 American Music Awards, Nicki Minaj accepted both awards for herself and her The Pinkprint project.

Outside of Nicki's pair of wins, the only other hip-hop occurrence came via Macklemore & Ryan Lewis's performance of a new track, “Kevin.” Although the track is on par with many of their other profound and conscious songs, this one has a darker theme and features the powerful vocals of Leon Bridges.

The AMAs don't have a huge hip-hop following, which was apparent in the low attendance, but nonetheless, it was a fun, well put together awards show. And thankfully, no one's acceptance speeches ran too long, and there was plenty of visual imagery to enjoy. Just ask Meek...
