New England alt rockers the Pixies announced on Monday their plans to get back on the road for a trek through several North American cities.
The fall tour includes stops in San Diego, Los Angeles, and the Hollywood Bowl for the KCRW World Festival in California, plus dates in Idaho, Washington, Minnesota, Wisconsin, and four Canadian appearances in Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba.
Those who did not get in on yesterday’s presale will have the opportunity to purchase tickets when they go on sale starting Friday. Royal Blood will reportedly open for the Pixies on most dates, but Gogol Bordello and Cat Power will appear during the Sept. 28 stop at the Hollywood Bowl.
Prior to the North American dates, the band will make a jaunt through Europe and Asia for multiple festivals, including London’s Field Day and Zagreb, Croatia’s INmusic in June, plus Summer Sonic in Osaka and Toyko in August.
The Boston-based quartet is coming off the release of its most recent album, Indie Cindy. Though the material was recorded well over a year ago, the album was not officially released until April 29 of this year. The band released a limited number of special vinyl copies, accompanied by a seven-inch single, exclusively for Record Store Day 10 days prior.
Indie Cindy marks the band’s sixth studio album and the first since Trompe le Monde, which was released way back in 1991. It is made up of three of the band’s previous extended play releases, simply titled EP1, EP2, and EP3. All three were recorded in 2012 and released between 2013-14.
The Pixies also made headlines recently when they appeared at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in Indio, Calif. last month. The set marked their first at Coachella in 10 years, which in 2004 was the first big reunion gig for the quartet.
