Rock on the Range is now less than 24 hours away from kicking off at the Columbus Crew’s MAPFIRE Stadium. The three-day event will feature a cornucopia of rock in all styles and varieties and one of the best bands booked for the event is the Long Beach-based Rival Sons, whose scuzzy yet melodic blues rock marks them as one of the weekend’s must-see acts.

The band was born from the ashes of Black Summer Crush, the previous group of Rival Sons’ guitarist Scott Holiday and drummer Michael Miley. Looking to start a new project after that band’s dissolution, Holiday discovered the music of singer Jay Buchanan, who Miley had worked with previously. Rounded out by bassist Dave Beste, the four-piece has released four albums of Earth-scorching rock, their latest being the 2014 album Great Western Valkyrie.

The band is known for their fast and furious studio techniques. Rival Sons typically writes and records their albums together in less than a month, giving their music a raw edge. They’re also blessed with a fantastic singer in Buchanan, whose clean yet forceful singing style is showcased on standout tracks like “Pressure and Time” and “Electric Man.”

If you’re a fan of bands like The Black Keys and Queens of the Stone Age, Rival Sons is a group you won’t want to miss. The band is scheduled to hit the Ernie Ball Stage at 4:20 p.m. on Sunday, the final day of Rock on the Range.
