According to the Major League Soccer website on Tuesday, the Houston Dynamo are not in a playoff position 23 games into the 2014 Major League Soccer season. Currently the Dynamo have 25 points and sit in eighth place in the Eastern Conference, three points back of the fifth place New York Red Bulls.
The Dynamo's current record is seven wins, twelve losses and four ties. Since the Dynamo joined Major League Soccer in 2006, they won the MLS Cup over the New England Revolution in their first two years of existence (2006 and 2007) and finished in first place in the Western Conference during the regular season in 2008.
However in the 2008 playoffs, the Dynamo were upset by the New York Red Bulls in the Western Conference semi-finals. The Bulls defeated the Dynamo 4-1 in a two game total goal series. In 2013, the Dynamo finished fourth in the Eastern Conference, but defeated the Montreal Impact 3-0 in the knockout game, and upset the New York Red Bulls 4-3 in the two game total goal series of the Eastern Conference semi-finals. The Dynamo then lost 2-1 to Sporting Kansas City in a two game total goal series to decide the Western Conference champion in 2013.
Only once in the history of the Houston Dynamo franchise have they failed to make the postseason. That came in 2010 when they finished in seventh place in the Western Conference with a record of nine wins, 15 losses and six ties.
The Dynamo's top goal scorer this season has been forward Will Bruin of St. Louis, Missouri. Bruin has scored nine times for Houston this year.
The Dynamo have 11 more games on their 2014 regular season schedule. They have six road games and five home games. The Dynamo are also coming off a one game winning streak. In their last game, the Dynamo defeated the Philadelphia Union 2-0.
The Houston Dynamo also have an official dance team called the Dynamo Girls. To help support the Dynamo's charities, fans can purchase a Dynamo Girls calendar. By clicking on the link, fans can get a behind the scenes look of the making of the calendar.
