The infamous Westword Music Showcase (WMS) is taking over the Golden Triangle neighborhood this Saturday, June 20, which will come with eye rolls, fervent fans and many confused transplants. For those not familiar, the WMS is the biggest music festival that Denver hosts, put on by the weekly mag, Westword. What makes the WMS so special is its showcase of hundreds of local bands and musicians at various venues in the Broadway area. Though many natives scoff at the repetitiveness of the event, the opportunity to see so many different genres of live music played in one day, is a music fan's jackpot.

The part of the WMS that deserves the most praise, is their celebration of hip-hop, which is mostly neglected by other local festivals (and venues in general). So, for heads prepping their WMS schedules, here's the what's going on hip-hop wise. Including which venues to hit, and set times.

The roof is on fire – Vinyl Rooftop (1082 Broadway)

Like years past, the WMS is giving the hip-hop stage a view by revisiting the Vinyl Rooftop. Tons of seating, a sweeping view and blazing sun comprise the highest venue of the showcase. The rooftop will be all hip-hop, all day long, so this is a great home base.

12:00 to 12:40 Big J Beats
12:55 to 1:35 Diamond Boiz
1:50 to 2:30 KDJ Above
2:45 to 3:25 Cory Kendrix
3:40 to 4:20 SpydaT.E.K.
4:35 to 5:15 Koo Qua
5:30 to 6:10 FL
6:25 to 7:05 KTone

Room to grow – City Hall Amphitheater (1144 Broadway)

City Hall is the largest venue on the indoor WMS roster, and the Amphitheater is the biggest space in it. The removable roof will no doubt be retracted, and the massive room with two floors will host the hip-hop and hip-hop inspired bands that can draw a crowd. For a party that will inspire dancing, and possibly garner you a date, this is the place to congregate. (Note: Don't miss Turner Jackson, we've seen him take over the Amphitheater all on his own.)

12:40 to 1:20 Filthy T
1:35 to 2:15 Kitty Crimes
2:30 to 3:10 Go Star (Electro Rock)
3:25 to 4:05 Turner Jackson's Red Plastic Cup
4:20 to 5:00 SF1
5:15 to 5:55 Wheelchair Sports Camp
6:10 to 6:50 The Soul Pros and DJ A-L

Cue the music – City Hall Cue Room (1144 Broadway)

Just upstairs from City Hall's Amphitheater the most eclectic and artistic hip-hoppers will be inspiring and innovating. The room is notably more intimate, but the space is ornate, and definitely fits the vibe of these cats that simply cannot be boxed in.

12:20 to 1:00 Winehouse (Tribute/Cover)
1:15 to 1:55 Bianca Mikahn
2:10 to 2:50 Weird Al Qaida (Experimental Rock)
3:05 to 3:45 Babah Fly
4:00 to 4:40 Stay Tuned
4:55 to 5:35 CRL CRRLL
5:50 to 6:30 Man Mantis

One offs worth the trek

Cool off (maybe) inside on Vinyl's Main Stage to catch a couple DJs who will be lighting up the dance floor. Milky.WAV will be manning the tables from 12:40 to 1:20 p.m. and DJ Topshelf from 4:20 – 5 p.m. And for those that like rock/hip-hop mash ups, MTHDS will be on the Main Stage (12th and Acoma) from 12:00 to 12:30 p.m.
