Guided by Voices announce U.S. tour with stop at The Fonda

With a new album and over 30 years of experience, the seminal 80's alternative rock band Guided By Voices are planning a full fledge tour across America. After taking a hiatus over a decade ago, the band reformed a in 2010 and have cranked out half a dozen releases since 2012. Throw in a FYF Festival appearance a handful of California shows and it makes sense why they would pick The Fonda as their indoor stop on this new tour.

"Cool Planet" is the new album and it's packing 18 new songs that benefit from what lead vocalist Robert Pollard is calling "refined songwriting." With influences from The Beatles to Bowie to all the bands Guided By Voices spawned along their career, there are few reasons why this album shouldn't be as strong as any of their heavy hitters. Pollard has also released almost 20 solo albums in that time, so GBV fans have little to complain about in the content department.

The West Coast is getting a lot of love on this summer swing, which makes sense as who can blame them for wanting to be by the water in what should be a hot stretch of weeks. With 16 dates to hit and nearly a month to knock them all out, expect a second leg to be announced if your city was not represented in the initial run. Sadly, the Los Angeles show won't be taking place on November 12th, which was dubbed Guided By Voices day by the City of Los Angeles in 2004, the last time the band was ever supposed to play. Still, with an intimate environment and killer sound, The Fonda on a Friday night is the perfect setting for a show of this nature.
