Detroit area country music fans can get ready to kick their heels up with season seven winner of “The Voice” Craig Wayne Boyd, Darius Rucker, Rascal Flatts, Brett Eldredge and more at 99.5 WYCD’s two-day Downtown Hoedown. The live music fest will take place on June 5 and 6 at West Riverfront Park in downtown Detroit.
Craig Wayne Boyd beat the odds when he snagged the season seven “Voice” title for Team Blake Shelton, as he was Shelton’s only remaining artist in the series final. He was up against all three of Adam Levine’s artists Matt McAndrew, Chris Jamison and Damien. Levine seemed a shoe-in for his third victory but Boyd proved otherwise and handed three-time Voice champ Blake Shelton another win to make it an even four. Boyd hit the ground running after sweeping the title. His original single “My Baby’s Got a Smile on Her Face” debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart.
Boyd has spent time touring since his run on “The Voice.” He joins some phenomenal acts at Downtown Hoedown like Grammy winners Darius Rucker (formerly the front man for Hootie and the Blowfish) and Rascal Flatts, as well as critically-acclaimed country crooner Brett Eldredge. Other acts include Brothers Osbourne, A Thousand Horses, Cam, Old Dominion, Michael Ray, Striking Matches, Ashley Monroe, Drake White and more. Boyd, Rucker and Eldredge play on Friday, June 5 and Rascal Flatts plays on Saturday, June 6.
This year marks the 33rd Annual Downtown Hoedown and the first year it plays at the Detroit West Riverfront Park location. Per the radio station website, Debbie Kenyon, market manager and senior vice president for CBS Radio Detroit said, “West Riverfront Park will make for a great setting, giving listeners a great country music experience, as well as the ambiance of the riverfront. We feel that the artists will be equally impressed and are thrilled to have Darius Rucker and Rascal Flatts as our headliners for our first year at West Riverfront Park.”
The event should provide some great weekend entertainment. Performances run from 4-11 p.m. on Friday, June 5 and from 12-11 p.m. on Saturday June 6. Tickets range from $32 general admission to $72 floor seating each, both before fees. The gates open at 4 p.m. on June 5 and at 12 p.m. on June 6. Find tickets and more information here.
