This past weekend fans got their first look at Katt Williams' much anticipated comedy special for HBO with the release of the trailer for “Priceless.” The special, which was filmed at the Ontario, California stop on Williams' Growth Spurt tour, was directed by Spike Lee, whose masterpiece “Do the Right Thing,” was honored by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts last weekend in honor of the 25th anniversary of the film's release.
“Ladies and gentleman presenting Katt Williams,” the announcer says at the start of the trailer provoking Williams to strut out on stage wearing a white fur and dark sunglasses. Williams goes on to poke fun at his arrest record saying, “I was arrested five times, in five cities in five days. Anytime you are standing next to Suge Knight, and you are the person going to jail, that is a wake up call for your ass.”
It seems that Williams may have hit snooze on that “wake up call” as he has been making headlines lately for allegedly pulling out a gun at The Comedy Store in Los Angeles last week. According to TMZ, the victims, who were allegedly requesting Williams' participation in their documentary “From the Hood to Hollywood, claim that the “Norbit” comedian threatened them with two guns before smashing out the window of their vehicle. Williams denies all allegations and says that he was actually threatened by several “gangbangers” at the Sunset Boulevard comedy club that he was patronizing.
2014 is shaping up to be a busy year for Williams. Besides releasing his much anticipated comedy special, he also appears in Nick Cannon's feature film directorial debut “School Dance,” which can be seen in limited theaters and on VOD. The film features an all-star comedic cast including Williams, George Lopez, Kevin Hart and Jim Breuer. Williams previously collaborated with Cannon on the sketch comedy series “Nick Cannon Presents: Short Circuitz” in 2007. In a recent interview with The Urban Daily, Cannon said that he is looking to bring back a sense of camaraderie to filmmaking with “School Dance” by collecting a hilarious cast of characters, most of whom are real-life friends, to “do something funny.”
“Priceless” is Williams' long-awaited follow-up to his critically acclaimed debut HBO special “The Pimp Chronicles: Pt. 1” which first aired in 2006. Check out the energetic trailer above and tune into HBO on Saturday, August 16 at 10 p.m. EST to watch the premiere of “Priceless.”
