After a lengthy time lapse from the Latin music industry, Carlos Vives returned to the United States just a year ago to continue with his music career that has included numerous nominations, awards and performances in vast Latin music award shows. Vives was one of the key performers and nominee at the annual Premios Juventud (Youth Awards) held at the University of Miami BankUnited Center in Coral Gables, Fla. last week.
The Colombian singer closed the evening of entertainment singing one of his recent singles, "El Mar de Sus Ojos," which was included in Vives' last album production titled Más + Corazón Profundo. Lowered from a tower onto the stage, Vives was joined by the popular Afro-Colombian group ChocQuib Town. It was the first time Vives and ChocQuib Town performed the song together on stage since they recorded the hit. This festive song and performance with hip-hop dancers added the perfect finishing touch to the three hour award show.
"El Mar de Sus Ojos" debut No. 1 on Billboard Latin Airplay in March, making it Vives' fourth No. 1 hit since his return with "Volví a Nacer." As for his new single, "Cuando Nos Volvamos a Encontrar" with Marc Anthony, it is currently in the top 10 chart lists. The music video released less than a month ago has more than 2.8 million views.
In respect to awards, Vives is nominated for Telemundo's upcoming 2014 Premios Tu Mundo (Your Awards) scheduled for August in the Artista Tropical Favorito (Favorite Tropical Artist) category.
With such a successful comeback, Vives is getting ready for the first phase of his Más Corazón Profundo tour in his homeland Colombia, which starts Sept. 5 in Villavicencio and then continues to Bogota, Medellin, Barranquilla and Santa Maria.
