2017 is off to a strong start with plenty of new music--New York City electro-rock duo Cyborg Asylum is the latest to release new music for the new year with their latest single, "Synergy."
The electronic-heavy track is reminiscent of darker industrial music similar to that of acts like Nine Inch Nails and Depeche Mode. "For me, musically, the song is somewhat ominous but with glimmers of hope," says David Varga. "I wrote the arrangement over one weekend. It is the first song that John [Tumminia] and I worked on for the album. Prior to that, I had only written a couple of instrumentals for the album. I remember a certain band I really liked had just put out a single, and I wasn't very happy with it. I think what was going through my head was, "I can do better than that". So I sent what I had after that weekend to John to work on his lyrics and vocals. He came up to my home studio a few days later and laid down scratch tracks. At some point later, we went into the studio and recorded everything properly."
Tumminia adds, "'Synergy' is meant to convey connectivity – that we are all a basic part of something greater."
Cyborg Asylum's new album is due out April 17.
