Per a report from Billboard, Ohio pop-rock band Walk the Moon earned Song of the Year honors for their infectious pop hit "Shut Up and Dance." Since being released as a single on Sep. 10, 2014 the song has appeared on more than two dozen singles charts all around the world, including eight in the United States.

It was number one on Billboard's Hot Rock Songs Chart, Rock Airplay Chart, Adult Contemporary Chart, and Adult Top 40 Chart as well as number four on the magazine's Mainstream Top 40 Chart and the overall Billboard Hot 100.

Walk the Moon were also named winners of ASCAP's (American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers) Vanguard Award, a trophy given to artists or acts who are regarded as shaping the future of American music.

The band are next bringing their Work This Body Tour to the Santa Barbara Bowl on Friday, May 27 with special guest Mister Wives. Tickets for that concert are on sale now at AXS.

Mellencamp was honored with ASCAP's Founders Award, the organization's highest honor handed out for exceptional contributions to music. 2016 marks the singer-songwriter's fourth decade in the business as the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer has released 22 albums, the most recent being 2014's Plain Spoken.

He resumes his Plain Spoken Tour with Carlene Carter on Oct. 11 at The Hanover Theater in Worcester, MA; tickets for that show and all of his October tour dates are also available through AXS.

There were two major repeat Pop Music Award winners. Martin, whose songwriting contributions include Adele's current single "Send My Love (To Your New Lover)" and several of Taylor Swift's biggest hit, earned the Songwriter of the Year award for the ninth consecutive time setting a new record.

Meanwhile, label Warner/Chappell Music was named Publisher of the Year for the third time in the last five years, having published 22 of the year's most performed songs - one of which was "Shut up and Dance." For a full list of winners from the ASCAP Pop Music Awards, click here.
