Seu Jorge Biography

The Brazilian musician singer/songwriter and actor, Seu Jorge is considered to be a renewer of Brazilian pop samba. Seu Jorge was the lead singer of the band Farofa Carioca, writing most of the songs on their 1998 debut album Moro no Brasil.  In 2001 he released Samba Esporte Fino, a pop album influenced by the work of musicians Jorge Ben Jor, Gilberto Gil and Milton Nascimento.  The album was re-released outside of Brazil in 2003 under the title Carolina.  His second album, the critically acclaimed Cru, was released in 2005.  And that same year he recorded a live album with Brazilian singer Ana Carolina, titled Ana & Jorge.

He has also gained recognition for his work as an actor and soundtrack composer.  He appeared in the critically acclaimed films City of God and Wes Anderson's The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou--he also provided much of the film's soundtrack in the form of Portuguese language covers of classic David Bowie songs.

In June of 2006, he performed at the Bonnaroo Music Festival and earlier this year performed with Thievery Corporation at Austin City Limits.
