For more than a decade, DeVotchKa has been melting its sweeping collection of influences into an authentic and totally original blend of rock 'n' roll. With the release of the band's fifth album, "100 Lovers" (Anti- Records, 2011), the band headed back to the romantic influences of the Arizona desert with producer Craig Schumacher (Calexico, Neko Case) to create a compendium of short stories inspired by the varied moments the band experienced since the release of A Mad & Faithful Telling (Anti-, 2007).
DeVotchKa's annual hometown Halloween shows are known to be legendary events. The band, already known for their rousing live performances, has made Halloween their own holiday. As with years past, DeVotchKa will decorate the Ogden and dress up in costume according to a still-secret theme. Past themes have included Bollywood, Day of the Dead, kabuki, the running of the bulls, and The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. DeVotchKa are inviting special guests to play with the band, so expect a few surprises to ensure this is a world-class concert.
Additionally, DeVotchKa recently played a number of European and American festivals. The biggest festival, Englands famed 170,000-person Glastonbury, was headlined by U2, Coldplay, Radiohead, and Paul Simon. DeVotchKa also triumphantly returned to Bonnaroo, playing with Buffalo Springfield, Eminem, The Black Keys, and many more. Prior to touring Europe, DeVotchKa recorded a new music video for The Man from San Sebastian, which premiered on NPR.org. Please go to http://www.youtube.com/user/Devotchka to watch the video. With the new album 100 Lovers, DeVotchKa have achieved success carving their own singular sound out of the worlds of rock, opera, theater, dance, and film.
