Are you ready to rock? With Rock on the Range 2015 starting within hours, you might be gearing up for three days of wall-to-wall music. With about 20 musical acts and five comedy performances on the schedule for opening day, you might be wondering which acts you should see — in addition to Slipknot, of course. Here’s our take on the must-see acts to catch on May 15 during Rock on the Range; for set times, take a look at the festival’s website.
Slash Featuring Myles Kennedy and The Conspirators
Get on your feet and get ready to rock when Slash featuring Myles Kennedy and The Conspirators take the stage at Rock on the Range. The legendary guitarist and his band released the album World on Fire last year to warm reviews, with The Salt Lake Tribune’s Eric Walden praising the album’s songwriting and melodies.
Falling in Reverse
Hardcore rock band Falling in Reverse are also on the performance schedule. The band, whose latest album Just Like You was released earlier this year to warm reviews, are known for their in-your-face lyrics; one need look no further than the single “Just Like You” for an example of the band showing their willingness to confront criticism.
Rock band Breaking Benjamin is set to perform during Rock on the Range on Day 1. The band, which has undergone numerous lineup changes but has kept founder Benjamin Burnley, has been known to play a mix of fan favorites in their live performances, including “Blow Me Away” and “So Cold.” The band’s next album Dark Before Dawn will be released in June.
Since the release of the band’s album self-titled EP, Los Angeles-based band Dorothy has garnered plenty of notice and was named among the “10 New Artists You Need to Know” by Rolling Stone in November 2014. To get a feel for the band’s sound, check out the pedal-to-the-metal single “Wicked Ones” before the festival.
Sure, this festival is all about rock music. But who says you can’t catch a comedy act or two in between sets? That’s where Brian Posehn comes in. The comedian, whose lengthy credits include “The Sarah Silverman Program,” “Reno 911!” “Just Shoot Me” and more, is renowned for his biting wit. He takes the stage at 7:20 p.m. in the festival’s Comedy Tent.
Rock on the Range will be held May 15-17 at MAPFRE Stadium (1 Black & Gold Blvd., Columbus). Other performers on the schedule for the festival include Judas Priest, Godsmack, Linkin Park and more. Can’t make it to Columbus? Then check out AXS TV to catch performances during Rock on the Range.
