K-Pop act 2NE1 premiered its music video for the single "Gotta Be You" on May 20. In the colorful music video, the ladies team up with fashion designer Jeremy Scott on the pop art-inspired project.
"Gotta Be You" is the latest single from 2NE1's EP Crush. It follows the two music videos the girls released simultaneously back in March for "Come Back Home" and "Happy." With "Gotta Be You," 2NE1's CL raps over slinky synths until the chorus explodes with all four ladies' vocals. CL, Bom, Dara and Minzy deliver a colorfully upbeat track.
In the music video for "Gotta Be You," 2NE1 moves around a vibrant environment in eclectic outfits by Jeremy Scott. He has styled pop stars like Katy Perry and Rihanna in the past and now CL, Bom, Dara and Minzy get to wear his outfits as well. According to Billboard, the ladies reference Roy Lichtenstein comic books and Andy Warhol's "Brillo Boxes" with their pop art approach. 2NE1 always knows how to deliver a visual treat with its music videos, and "Gotta Be You" is another great addition to their palette.
2NE1 released the "Crush" EP worldwide in February and it peaked at No. 1 in South Korea and No. 61 on Billboard's U.S. albums chart. With that impressive first week bow in the states, the ladies set the record for highest charting K-Pop album on the Billboard 200 tally, besting the No. 126 peak of Girls Generation subgroup Taetiseo's "Twinkle" EP. 2NE1 sold 5,000 copies of Crush in the U.S. that week, setting another record for best-selling K-Pop album in the states.
2NE1 is currently touring Asia in support of the "Crush" EP. The group has no plans lined up to tour the U.S. but that could change in the future. Be sure to check out AXS.com for updates on if the ladies decide to tour the states later on.
